Forms are still one of the most important types of interaction for users on the web. However, filling web forms isn’t the most pleasant task.
Users should be able to complete forms easily, quickly and without confusion. Bearing this in mind, usability and design need to be on the top concerns when developing web forms.
We couldn’t create a framework without a special attention to usability and interaction. Thus, during our work, we felt we need an external validation for Lightweightform’s forms and resources.
We teamed up with a Portuguese University for an extensive review in web forms usability and interaction. A paper was published with important considerations to web forms, such as:
- several authors refer to forms design as the most complex;
- the 20 design guidelines provided by Bargas-Avila et al are effective to provide usable forms;
- usable web forms lead to faster completion times and fewer form submission trials.
Regarding this research, we decided to redesign Lightweightform’s interface to improve usability and effectiveness in the forms. You can check it in our Examples section.
